4.5 Stars! I totally loved the premise of this book when I saw it on Goodreads, and immediately put it on my TBR list. I soon found myself purchasing the book and once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. The first thing that drew me to the book is that it is about a woman in her late thirties. It is so easy to find books about those in their twenties, with NA being so popular, but to find a good romance about someone in their 30s or older is tough. When Anna meets Kiran she is in a relationship and I like that the reader gets to see why and how that relationship ends. The relationship between Anna and Kiran seemed a little rushed. I felt Kiran declared his love too quickly and that it was based on the girl Ann was in school, and not the woman that she was when he met her. I did like that they started their relationship as friends and that it progressed to love, especially for Anna, who didn’t really remember Kiran from school. I know her love was genuine, but I felt that she was a little obsessive at times about Kiran’s looks. This was repeatedly used in the story and maybe a little over used. Being that Kiran is from India, the author did a great job of incorporating the culture of India into the book. The trip they take to India is described in such a way that you feel as though you’re there with them. Overall I think the book was great. If you’re looking for a nice mature romance this is the one for you.Product details

Vegas to Varanasi Fortytude Series Book 1 edition by Shelly Hickman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
One of the best parts about this book was the time they spent in India. Best for the characters, and for the readers. Probably one of the better armchair tours of India I've read. I'm aware of some things about India, but I learned so much more about the culture and the customs. The author related the time Anna and Kiran spent in India in a very realistic way, and in a manner that both entertained and educated. After reading that section, I finally 'got' the book. It was a recounting of Anna's life which depicted it all - the good as well as the bad, her triumphs and insecurities, and her feelings for herself and the people in her life.
There are no gigantic moments, no odd mystery to be solved, no sudden revelations, but a recap of life. Inspiring and comforting in its way, letting us know our path in life will have curves and even potholes, as well as happy moments. We may get off course once in a while, but if we drive well, we will get there in due time. I think after the trip, I was waiting for some other "major" event, and when the story line just eased out, I felt a little bewildered, but it is still a good read.
I loved this story. It was so different from the usual romance story. There is romance, chemistry that you will feel and a hero that is way above the norm. I was surprised the heroine didn't grab him sooner than she did.
The story is more about the heroine's life. She marries her high school best friend. A great guy that you can't help love, he is kind, thoughtful, etc. About 3 years into the marriage with one child and one on the way it comes to her that he is gay. The signs were all there she just chose not to see them. And, she really loves this guy. He loves her as well but he is not being who he is. They divorce but they stay friends as they raise two children.
She goes to work and sets out to take control of her life. Then she meets David. Oh, you can see this one coming. David is an alcoholic that doesn't think he has a problem. Lots of drama here. But then she meets an old high school classmate that she barely remembers. But he remembers her and he is absolutely unforgettable now. Her adventures with #3 is the heart of the story. A great love story. OMG this guy is unreal. The trip to India was a highlight in the story. I felt as tho I was there without having to experience the "squat"...
Good read, very entertaining and hard to put down. I definitely recommend it.
Started out good but went downhill fast. Way too much filler that really had nothing to do with the plot. One minute we are listening to what is going on and the next we are back in her college days where she didn’t go out much. After a little while the story just moved to slow. She married her childhood sweetheart but years later after the kids come it turns out he is gay. They stayed friends which I thought was great. This part was great. Then we go into a girl and guy live together he is a drunk they split which he is fine with until she finds a man from her past who steps up to the plate than ex wants her back and really is childlike. At times I thought her kids acted older than the adults. I even like how the boy from high school came back into her life with a complete makeover.
Ms. Ramay narrator for the most part was good, there are some noises with her mouth and breathing that needs some work. At times it just all ran together for me and was a little confusing until I took a break and went over what I had listened to. She puts lot of emotion into her voice and tones but needs to pause a little more between characters to let the listener catch up. Anna character was great with lots of emotions but at times she seemed more childlike. A lot of her character voices sound too much alike and too much like her natural voice which can be confusing to know who is talking. When the character is thinking the narrator should do a little change so you know it is thinking it gets confusing when she switches from thinking to talking so close together. There are no background noises, no repeating of words and no volume changes. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. It is a clean and clear audio that just needs a little more work. For the most part the emotions displayed were outstanding.
The plot is great but with so much filler that isn’t needed the reader is lost wondering why the heck that was even added to the book. I loved the relationship the parents had with the children, I loved the humor and teasing between all. I enjoyed the story of the fat man turning into a hunk, the close relationship the two parents had and the romance between Anna and Kiran. To me the trip they took to India wasn’t needed nothing really happened but they hooked up, met his family and a few other little things. To me it was just filler. I did like the background, the family values and the love and care they gave to their families. All in all it was an enjoyable listen has some great parts.
